Seattle sick and safe time leave ordinance
Many of our janitorial members at SEIU Local 6 have been asking how the new Seattle sick and safe time leave ordinance applies to them. In short, it does not. This is because the temporary disability benefits Local 6 janitorial members receive are greater than city ordinance. Temporary disability is provided through the healthcare trust fund and provides up to 26 weeks of “sick leave.”
After two days of being out of work due to an illness or injury that was not job related, Local 6 janitors are eligible for 70% of pay each day they are unable to work for the first 13 weeks. For the following 13 weeks members will receive 50% of their wages. Read More
